— Bangladesh’s ready‑made garment (RMG) exports slowed across major markets in the first half of Finncial Year 2025–26.
Export Promotion Bureau data showed shipments fell 2.63 per cent year‑on‑year to 19.37 billion dollar, down from 19.88 billion dollar a year earlier.
Political instability, law‑and‑order challenges and weak global demand weighed on performance.
Exports to the European Union dropped 4.41 per cent to 9.46 billion dollar, with sharp declines in Germany, France and Italy.
By contrast, exports to the UK and Canada saw modest growth. Industry insiders said buyers shifted orders to rival countries, while stronger support for exporters in India and China eroded Bangladesh’s competitiveness.
